Fluke 700PEx Intrinsically Safe Pressure Module

Fluke 700PEx is an intrinsically safe pressure module series for professional calibration in potentially explosive atmospheres. Eight models cover differential, gauge and absolute pressure measurements from 25 mbar to approximately 207 bar. Selected modules offer reference uncertainty down to 0.025% FS and total one-year uncertainty down to 0.050% FS. With ATEX certification, rugged construction, internal temperature compensation and compatibility with Fluke 718Ex and 725Ex calibrators, the 700PEx is ideal for industrial pressure calibration in hazardous areas.

Fluke 700PEx is a series of intrinsically safe pressure modules designed for accurate pressure measurement and calibration in potentially explosive atmospheres. The modules extend the pressure measurement capabilities of compatible Fluke Ex-certified calibrators and are particularly suitable for applications in the chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical and process industries.

The Fluke 700PEx series provides differential, gauge and absolute pressure measurement with ranges from 2.5 kPa / 25 mbar up to 20.7 MPa / approximately 207 bar. This allows technicians to select an appropriate pressure module for their calibration task while maintaining the required explosion protection.

The modules are designed for use with intrinsically safe Fluke calibrators such as the Fluke 718Ex and Fluke 725Ex. They communicate digitally with the connected calibrator, which displays the measured pressure in selectable engineering units.

A major advantage of the Fluke 700PEx is its intrinsically safe construction. The series carries the historical ATEX marking II 1 G Ex ia IIC T4 and North American intrinsic safety approvals. These certifications make the modules suitable for specified hazardous-area applications when used in accordance with their certification documents and with compatible equipment.

For many models, Fluke specifies a reference uncertainty of 0.025% of full scale and a total one-year uncertainty of 0.05% of full scale. The actual uncertainty depends on the selected pressure module.

The rugged housing, internal temperature compensation and digital communication make the Fluke 700PEx a reliable solution for industrial pressure calibration.

At europascal, the Fluke 700PEx can be combined with suitable pressure calibrators, pressure generators and accessories to create professional calibration solutions.

Intrinsically Safe Pressure Measurement

The Fluke 700PEx series was developed specifically for pressure measurement in potentially explosive atmospheres.

In industrial environments, flammable gases or vapors may be present. Electrical equipment used in these areas must meet the applicable explosion protection requirements.

The Fluke 700PEx modules use an intrinsically safe design intended to limit electrical and thermal energy to levels that do not create an ignition hazard under the conditions defined by the certification.

The historical certification markings include:

ATEX II 1 G Ex ia IIC T4

CSA I.S. Class I, Division 1, Groups A–D, T4

The specified ambient temperature range for the Ex certification is:

0 °C to +50 °C

The applicable certification, equipment combination and installation conditions must always be checked before use in a hazardous area.

Pressure Ranges up to 207 bar

The Fluke 700PEx family covers a wide range of industrial pressure measurement applications.

The smallest differential-pressure module measures pressures up to:

2.5 kPa / 25 mbar

The highest-pressure version covers:

20.7 MPa / approximately 207 bar

This broad range allows the modules to be used for low differential-pressure measurements as well as high-pressure industrial applications.

The appropriate module should be selected according to the required pressure range, pressure type, measurement uncertainty and media compatibility.

Available Fluke 700PEx Models

The following table provides an overview of the eight models documented by Fluke.

Model Pressure Type Nominal Range Reference Uncertainty Total Uncertainty, 1 Year
Fluke 700P01Ex Differential 2.5 kPa / 25 mbar 0.200% FS 0.300% FS
Fluke 700P24Ex Differential 103 kPa / 1.03 bar 0.025% FS 0.050% FS
Fluke 700P05Ex Gauge 207 kPa / 2.07 bar 0.025% FS 0.050% FS
Fluke 700P06Ex Gauge 690 kPa / 6.9 bar 0.025% FS 0.050% FS
Fluke 700P27Ex Gauge 2.07 MPa / 20.7 bar 0.025% FS 0.050% FS
Fluke 700P09Ex Gauge 10 MPa / 100 bar 0.025% FS 0.050% FS
Fluke 700PA4Ex Absolute 103 kPa / 1.03 bar absolute 0.050% FS 0.070% FS
Fluke 700P29Ex Gauge 20.7 MPa / 207 bar 0.050% FS 0.080% FS

Important: The uncertainty values are model-specific. The 0.025% FS reference uncertainty does not apply to every Fluke 700PEx module.

Differential Pressure Modules

The Fluke 700PEx series includes differential-pressure modules for measuring the pressure difference between two connections.

Differential pressure measurement is commonly required for:

  • Differential-pressure transmitters
  • Filter monitoring
  • Flow measurement systems
  • Process pressure measurement
  • Low-pressure industrial applications

The Fluke 700P01Ex provides a particularly low differential-pressure range of 25 mbar.

The Fluke 700P24Ex covers differential pressures up to approximately 1.03 bar.

Differential-pressure modules have separate high-pressure and low-pressure connections.

The permissible media and maximum differential or common-mode pressure must be checked for the selected model.

Gauge Pressure Modules

Gauge-pressure modules measure pressure relative to atmospheric pressure.

The Fluke 700PEx family includes gauge-pressure versions covering approximately:

2.07 bar to 207 bar

These modules are particularly suitable for calibration of:

  • Industrial pressure transmitters
  • Pressure gauges
  • Pressure sensors
  • Pressure switches
  • Process instrumentation

Gauge-pressure modules have one process pressure connection.

The measurement is transmitted digitally to the connected calibrator.

Absolute Pressure Measurement

The Fluke 700PA4Ex is designed for absolute-pressure measurement.

Its nominal range is:

103 kPa / approximately 1.03 bar absolute

The module measures pressure relative to an absolute vacuum reference rather than atmospheric pressure.

Absolute-pressure measurement is useful in applications where atmospheric pressure variations must not influence the indicated pressure reference.

For the 700PA4Ex, Fluke specifies:

0.050% FS reference uncertainty

and:

0.070% FS total one-year uncertainty

Reference Uncertainty down to 0.025% FS

Measurement uncertainty is an important consideration when selecting a pressure reference.

For several Fluke 700PEx models, the reference uncertainty is specified as:

0.025% FS

This specification applies under defined reference conditions of approximately:

23 °C ± 3 °C

The total one-year uncertainty also includes additional contributions from long-term stability and temperature effects.

For many models, the resulting total uncertainty is:

0.050% FS

The lowest-pressure, absolute-pressure and highest-pressure modules have different uncertainty specifications.

Temperature Compensation

The Fluke 700PEx modules incorporate internal temperature compensation.

The manufacturer specifies total one-year uncertainty values over:

0 °C to +50 °C

This makes the modules suitable for pressure calibration in industrial environments where ambient temperatures may vary.

Temperature compensation helps reduce the influence of temperature changes on the pressure measurement.

For operation outside this range, different uncertainty specifications and restrictions may apply.

Digital Communication

The Fluke 700PEx modules communicate digitally with compatible Fluke pressure calibrators.

Each module contains a pressure sensor and internal electronics that process the measured pressure.

The digital measurement information is transmitted to the connected calibrator.

This design eliminates the need to transmit an unconditioned analog pressure signal over the connection cable.

The connected calibrator displays the pressure in the selected engineering unit.

Compatible Fluke Calibrators

The Fluke 700PEx series is designed for use with intrinsically safe Fluke calibrators.

Compatible instrument families documented by Fluke include:

Fluke 718Ex Intrinsically Safe Pressure Calibrator

Fluke 725Ex Multifunction Process Calibrator

These combinations provide a flexible solution for pressure calibration in hazardous industrial environments.

For example, the Fluke 718Ex can measure pressure using its internal sensor or a compatible external Fluke 700PEx module.

The external module extends the available measurement range beyond the calibrator’s internal pressure sensor.

Compatibility must be confirmed for the exact module, calibrator and hazardous-area approval.

Pressure Measurement with Fluke 718Ex

The Fluke 718Ex is an intrinsically safe pressure calibrator with integrated pressure generation.

When combined with a Fluke 700PEx module, the instrument can measure additional pressure ranges.

A typical calibration arrangement consists of:

Pressure Source → Fluke 700PEx → Fluke 718Ex

The device under test is connected to the same pressure source.

The external module measures the applied pressure and transmits the measurement to the calibrator.

This configuration is useful when calibrating pressure transmitters or pressure switches in industrial installations.

Rugged Housing

The Fluke 700PEx modules feature a rugged urethane-molded housing.

The protective construction helps reduce damage caused by:

  • Mechanical shocks
  • Accidental drops
  • Dirt
  • Dust
  • Moisture

This makes the modules suitable for mobile calibration work in industrial environments.

The compact design also allows the pressure module to be positioned near the pressure connection while the calibrator remains at a convenient operating location.

One-Meter Connection Cable

The pressure modules use an approximately:

1 m connection cable

between the module and the compatible Fluke calibrator.

This allows the pressure sensor to be positioned close to the pressure source or device under test.

Shorter pressure tubing can reduce unnecessary test volume and simplify the measurement setup.

The cable also provides additional flexibility when working in confined industrial installations.

Pressure Connections

The Fluke 700PEx modules use:

1/4-inch NPT pressure connections

Fluke documentation also describes BSP/ISO adapters for most versions.

The high-pressure 700P29Ex is an exception and does not include the same standard metric adapter.

All pressure fittings and hoses must be suitable for the selected module, pressure range and application.

Media Compatibility

Media compatibility depends on the individual Fluke 700PEx model.

Fluke distinguishes between several wetted-material configurations.

Dry

Suitable for dry air or non-corrosive gases.

316 SS

Suitable for media compatible with Type 316 stainless steel.

C276

Suitable for media compatible with Hastelloy C276.

The 700P01Ex is intended for dry media on both differential-pressure connections.

The 700P24Ex has a stainless-steel-compatible high-pressure side and a dry-gas low-pressure side.

The 700P29Ex uses Hastelloy C276-compatible wetted materials.

Before connecting a pressure source, the exact media specification must be checked.

Pressure Calibration in Hazardous Areas

The Fluke 700PEx is particularly useful in industries where pressure calibration must be performed in classified hazardous areas.

Typical applications include:

  • Oil and gas production
  • Petrochemical plants
  • Chemical processing
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Industrial process installations
  • Gas distribution
  • Pressure transmitter maintenance
  • Pressure switch testing

The intrinsically safe construction allows suitable equipment combinations to be used in specified hazardous areas.

However, intrinsic safety does not eliminate the need for appropriate operating procedures, pressure safety measures and verification of the equipment certification.
