Pneumatic High Pressure Generation up to 200 bar

The Additel ADT 920 provides an exceptionally high pressure range for a manually operated pneumatic calibration pump.

Its pressure generation range extends from:

95% vacuum

to:

3,000 psi / 200 bar positive pressure.

This broad range enables one pressure pump to cover vacuum, low-pressure, medium-pressure and demanding pneumatic high-pressure applications.

The ability to generate pressures up to 200 bar using air is particularly important for instruments that should not be exposed to hydraulic oil.

Typical devices under test include:

  • Analog pressure gauges
  • Digital pressure gauges
  • Gas pressure gauges
  • Vacuum gauges
  • Compound pressure gauges
  • Pressure transmitters
  • Pressure sensors
  • Pressure switches
  • Pneumatic process instruments
  • Precision pressure indicators

For calibration laboratories working with a wide range of pneumatic pressure instruments, the ADT 920 can significantly reduce the number of different pressure generation systems required.

200 bar in Approximately 40 Seconds

Manual generation of high gas pressures can be time-consuming with conventional pneumatic pumps.

The Additel ADT 920 addresses this challenge with a long operating lever and efficient pressure generation mechanism.

According to Additel, the pump can generate:

3,000 psi / 200 bar in approximately 40 seconds.

This high efficiency makes the ADT 920 particularly useful when high pneumatic pressures need to be generated regularly.

Once the approximate pressure has been generated, the integrated screw press allows the operator to approach the desired calibration point precisely.

Fine Adjustment Down to 10 Pa

Professional pressure calibration requires more than simply generating pressure.

The pressure must also be accurately adjusted to the required calibration point.

The Additel ADT 920 therefore incorporates a high-quality screw press for precise pressure adjustment.

The specified adjustment resolution is:

10 Pa

or:

0.1 mbar.

The operator first generates the approximate pressure using the hand pump.

The screw press is then used to finely increase or decrease the pressure until the desired calibration point is reached.

This combination of efficient pressure generation and precise adjustment makes the ADT 920 suitable for use with high-resolution reference pressure instruments.

Excellent Pressure Stability

Pressure stability is essential when comparing a device under test with a reference pressure instrument.

The Additel ADT 920 incorporates a specially designed shut-off valve that helps make the generated pressure as stable as possible during calibration.

Stable conditions are especially important when calibrating:

  • High-resolution digital pressure gauges
  • Precision pressure references
  • Pressure transmitters
  • Pressure sensors
  • Pressure switches

After reaching the desired calibration pressure, sufficient stabilization time should be allowed before recording measurement values.

Air as Pressure Medium

The Additel ADT 920 uses:

air

as its pressure medium.

This is a major advantage for pressure instruments that must remain free from hydraulic oil.

At pressures approaching 200 bar, hydraulic pumps are commonly used because liquids are easier to pressurize than gases. However, hydraulic fluid can contaminate pneumatic pressure instruments.

The ADT 920 provides an alternative by generating pressures up to 200 bar pneumatically.

For applications requiring a dedicated oil-free configuration, Additel recommends contacting the manufacturer for the appropriate special-order version.

Vacuum Generation up to 95%

Despite its high positive pressure capability, the Additel ADT 920 can also generate:

95% vacuum.

This enables the same pump to be used for vacuum, compound and positive-pressure instruments.

Typical vacuum applications include:

  • Vacuum gauges
  • Compound pressure gauges
  • Vacuum transmitters
  • Vacuum switches
  • Pressure sensors

The combination of vacuum generation and positive pressure up to 200 bar provides exceptional flexibility for professional pressure calibration.

Integrated Gas-Liquid Isolator

Devices under test can introduce moisture or contamination into a pneumatic calibration system.

The Additel ADT 920 therefore incorporates a built-in gas-liquid isolator.

The isolator helps protect the internal pump mechanism from moisture and dirt.

Residual liquid introduced by devices under test is collected and can be pushed out during pressure release.

This reduces contamination of the internal pneumatic system and helps minimize maintenance requirements.

For calibration laboratories processing instruments from different industrial environments, this provides an important practical advantage.

Hand-Tight Quick Connectors

The Additel ADT 920 incorporates two hand-tight quick connectors.

One connection is used for the:

reference pressure instrument

and the second for the:

device under test.

Compatible instruments can be connected and disconnected without PTFE tape or conventional wrenches.

This simplifies instrument changes and can considerably reduce setup time during routine calibration.

The hand-tight connection concept is particularly useful in calibration laboratories where multiple devices are tested every day.

Different Pressure Connection Options

The Additel ADT 920 is available with several pressure port configurations.

Available options include:

  • 1/4 NPT female
  • 1/2 NPT female
  • 1/4 BSP female
  • 1/2 BSP female
  • M20 × 1.5 female

This enables the pump to be configured for common international pressure connection standards.

Additional Additel adapter and fitting sets are available for devices with different pressure connections.

Professional Comparison Calibration

The Additel ADT 920 is designed as a professional comparison pressure test pump.

A typical calibration setup consists of:

Additel ADT 920 + Reference Pressure Instrument + Device Under Test

The reference instrument and device under test are connected simultaneously to the two pressure ports.

The ADT 920 generates the required pressure.

The operator uses the fine adjustment screw to precisely approach the desired calibration point.

After sufficient stabilization, the indication of the device under test is compared with the traceable reference pressure.

This procedure can be repeated at several increasing and decreasing pressure points according to the applicable calibration procedure.

Pressure Gauge Calibration

The Additel ADT 920 is particularly suitable for pneumatic pressure gauge calibration.

Typical devices include:

  • Mechanical pressure gauges
  • Digital pressure gauges
  • Gas pressure gauges
  • Vacuum gauges
  • Compound pressure gauges
  • Precision pressure indicators

The ADT 920 generates the required pressure but does not itself provide the traceable reference pressure value.

It is therefore combined with a suitable reference pressure gauge, pressure calibrator or pressure module.

The achievable measurement uncertainty depends on the reference standard, environmental conditions, pressure stability, calibration procedure and the complete measurement uncertainty budget.

Pressure Transmitter Calibration

The Additel ADT 920 can also provide the pneumatic pressure source required for pressure transmitter calibration.

The pump generates the required input pressure while a suitable reference instrument measures the actual applied pressure.

The electrical output of the transmitter can simultaneously be measured using an appropriate process calibrator or precision multimeter.

For many industrial pressure transmitters, the standard output signal is:

4 to 20 mA.

Several increasing and decreasing pressure points can be generated to evaluate the relationship between applied pressure and electrical output.

Pressure Switch Testing

The Additel ADT 920 can also be used as the pressure source for testing pressure switches.

Pressure is gradually increased until the switch changes state.

The pressure can then be reduced until the switch resets.

Combined with a suitable reference pressure instrument and electrical switch detector, this allows determination of:

  • Switching pressure
  • Reset pressure
  • Switching hysteresis

The fine adjustment mechanism helps the operator accurately approach the switching point.

Additel ADT 920HV High Volume Version

In addition to the standard ADT 920, Additel offers the:

Additel ADT 920HV.

The HV designation stands for a high-volume version designed to provide additional pressure generation capacity.

The standard Additel ADT 920 has a piston volume of:

60 ml.

The Additel ADT 920HV increases the piston volume to:

115 ml.

This increased volume can be advantageous when calibrating instruments or systems with larger internal volumes.

Both versions cover the same basic pressure range from 95% vacuum to 3,000 psi / 200 bar and provide the same fine adjustment resolution of 10 Pa / 0.1 mbar.

Robust Construction

The Additel ADT 920 is designed for demanding professional calibration applications.

The ram and adapters are manufactured from:

stainless steel.

The body combines:

stainless steel and aluminum.

Seal materials include:

Buna-N, F357, PTFE and copper alloy.

Anticorrosive and wear-resistant materials are used to improve reliability and service life.

3,000 psi / 200 bar.

According to the manufacturer’s operating instructions, the overpressure safety limit is:

3,500 psi / 235 bar.

This safety limit must not be interpreted as an extended calibration or operating range.

Normal operation should remain within the specified 200 bar generated pressure range.

Additel also specifies that pressure above 1,000 psi should not be held for more than four hours.

The pressure and vacuum mode must not be switched while the system is pressurized.

Additel ADT 920 vs. Additel ADT 919A

The Additel ADT 920 extends the pneumatic pressure capability beyond the Additel ADT 919A.
