The Additel ADT 878-160 Reference Dry Well Calibrator is a high precision reference calibrator for professional temperature calibration from −40 °C to 160 °C. As the low temperature model of the Additel ADT 878 reference dry well series, the instrument combines high display accuracy with exceptional temperature stability and uniformity. This makes the Additel ADT 878-160 particularly suitable for demanding calibration laboratories, quality assurance, research and industrial temperature metrology.
Across the entire specified temperature range, the Additel ADT 878-160 achieves a display accuracy of ±0.1 °C and a 30 minute stability of ±0.005 °C. Radial uniformity is ±0.01 °C across the entire range. Combined with a temperature resolution of 0.001 °C, the reference calibrator provides excellent conditions for high quality comparison calibrations of PRT sensors, resistance thermometers, RTD sensors and thermocouples.
A major advantage is the temperature range down to −40 °C. This allows both negative and positive calibration points to be realized with one compact system. The ADT 878-160 is therefore particularly suitable for temperature sensors used in refrigeration processes, HVAC systems, pharmaceutical applications, food technology and industrial processes.
At europascal, the Additel ADT 878-160 is available with expert support for selecting suitable inserts, reference probes and options for your individual temperature calibration requirements.

A 24 V supply enables suitable temperature transmitters to be powered. With HART functionality, compatible intelligent transmitters can be read, configured and calibrated.
A special feature of the Additel ADT 878-160 is its support for the Additel ADT878-TPW-KIT for the triple point of water. This accessory enables automated realization and maintenance of a triple point of water cell at 0.01 °C. The triple point of water is an important fixed point of the ITS-90 temperature scale and can be used, among other applications, to check the drift of high quality reference PRTs.
The combination of the ADT 878-160 and ADT878-TPW-KIT significantly simplifies the required procedure. The cell and PRT are inserted into the reference calibrator and the preprogrammed procedure is started. This expands the ADT 878-160 from a highly stable temperature source into an especially versatile tool for demanding metrological applications.

Why Choose the Additel ADT 878-160?
The Additel ADT 878-160 combines a temperature range that is important for many laboratory applications with exceptional stability. Temperatures from −40 °C to 160 °C can be generated using one compact reference calibrator. This allows numerous calibration points below and above ambient temperature to be covered with a single instrument.
Particularly noteworthy is the specified stability of ±0.005 °C across the entire temperature range. This is complemented by radial uniformity of ±0.01 °C and a temperature resolution of 0.001 °C. These characteristics make the ADT 878-160 an attractive temperature source for high quality comparison calibrations.
For users with additional measurement requirements, the Process Calibrator Option provides further capabilities. Reference PRTs and devices under test can be connected directly. Measurement of RTDs, thermocouples, current, voltage and switch states, combined with HART communication, enables comprehensive calibration procedures using a single system. Additel also supports documented calibration tasks with As Found and As Left results.
A particular advantage compared with the other models in the series is the triple point of water function. In combination with the Additel ADT878-TPW-KIT, the ADT 878-160 can automatically realize and subsequently maintain a triple point of water cell. Additel provides this function specifically for the ADT 878-160.
For a higher temperature range, the Additel ADT 878-425 covers temperatures from 33 °C to 425 °C. For applications up to 700 °C, the Additel ADT 878-700 provides the corresponding high temperature reference dry well solution.
For thermocouple calibrations at even higher temperatures, the Additel ADT 878-1210 extends the ADT 878 family up to 1,210 °C.
Additional Models in the Additel ADT 878 Series
The Additel ADT 878-160 is the low temperature model within the ADT 878 reference dry well series. Additional models are available for medium and high temperature applications, allowing calibration laboratories to select the appropriate reference temperature source for their working range.
The Additel ADT 878-425 covers a temperature range from 33 °C to 425 °C. With excellent stability and temperature uniformity, it is designed for demanding comparison calibrations in the medium temperature range.
For temperatures up to 700 °C, the Additel ADT 878-700 extends the working range while adding an integrated automatic PRT annealing function. This makes it particularly useful for laboratories working with high quality platinum resistance thermometers.
For high temperature thermocouple calibration, the Additel ADT 878-1210 provides a reference calibration furnace with a temperature range from 100 °C to 1,210 °C.
Users can therefore select between the ADT 878-160, ADT 878-425, ADT 878-700 and ADT 878-1210 according to the required temperature range and metrological requirements.
europascal can assist you in selecting the appropriate model based on your required temperature range, sensor types and target measurement uncertainty.
Typical Calibration Applications with the Additel ADT 878-160
The Additel ADT 878-160 Reference Dry Well Calibrator is particularly suitable for high quality comparison calibrations of resistance thermometers, PRT sensors, RTD sensors and thermocouples. Its temperature range from −40 °C to 160 °C makes it especially attractive for applications where both negative temperatures and typical positive process and laboratory temperatures need to be covered.
During a comparison calibration, the reference probe and device under test are positioned in a suitable dry well insert. Once the required temperature point has been reached and sufficient stabilization has occurred, the measurement values can be compared and documented.
For reference PRTs, the combination with the Additel ADT878-TPW-KIT provides additional capabilities. The triple point of water at 0.01 °C can be used to monitor PRT drift and is particularly important for work associated with the ITS-90 temperature scale.
If a higher temperature range is required, the Additel ADT 878-425 provides calibration temperatures up to 425 °C. For calibrations up to 700 °C, the Additel ADT 878-700 is available and additionally provides an automatic PRT annealing function.
For high temperature applications up to 1,210 °C, the Additel ADT 878-1210 completes the ADT 878 product family.
Additional solutions for professional temperature calibration are available from europascal in the Dry Well Calibrators category.
