The Additel ADT 878 Reference Dry Well Calibrator is a high precision temperature calibration solution designed for demanding applications in calibration laboratories, quality assurance, research and industrial metrology. The series combines excellent temperature stability and uniformity with automated calibration functions, a large color touchscreen and optional integrated process measurement capabilities. The product family includes the ADT 878-160, ADT 878-425, ADT 878-700 and ADT 878-1210, covering an overall temperature range from −40 °C to 1,210 °C.
Unlike the standard ADT 875 series, the Additel ADT 878 is designed as a reference dry well calibrator. Additel places particular emphasis on accuracy, stability and both axial and radial temperature uniformity. This makes the ADT 878 series particularly suitable for applications where the requirements for the temperature reference go beyond a basic functional test of temperature sensors.
The ADT 878-160 covers temperatures from −40 °C to 160 °C and achieves a display accuracy of ±0.1 °C over the entire range. Its 30 minute stability is only ±0.005 °C. This makes it an excellent choice for precise calibration of Pt100 probes, resistance thermometers, digital thermometers and temperature transmitters.
The ADT 878-425 extends the temperature range from 33 °C to 425 °C. Additel specifies a display accuracy of ±0.2 °C across the entire range. Stability is ±0.010 °C at 100 °C, ±0.015 °C at 225 °C and ±0.020 °C at 425 °C.
For higher temperatures, the ADT 878-700 provides a range from 33 °C to 700 °C. Its display accuracy is ±0.20 °C at 33 °C and 425 °C and ±0.25 °C at 660 °C. Stability ranges from ±0.010 °C at 100 °C to ±0.030 °C at 700 °C. A special feature of this model is its integrated automatic function for annealing PRTs.
The ADT 878-1210 extends the series into the high temperature range. This thermocouple calibration furnace operates from 100 °C to 1,210 °C and achieves a display accuracy of ±1.5 °C across the entire range. Its multi zone temperature control is designed to provide a highly stable and uniform heat source for thermocouple calibration.
A key feature of the ADT 878 series is the optional Process Calibrator Option, PC. It adds an input for an external reference PRT and two measurement channels for devices under test. These channels support resistance thermometers, thermocouples, current, voltage and switches. Documentation functions and a full HART communicator are also available.
This transforms the temperature source into a comprehensive temperature calibration workstation. Setpoint, reference probe and devices under test can be handled within a single system. Calibration tasks can be documented and results stored as As Found and As Left data.
Another important feature is the Self Calibration function. An external reference probe can be used to automatically check and readjust the internal control sensor. This can reduce the influence of long term drift of the internal sensor.

Ideal for Demanding Calibration Applications
The Additel ADT 878 Reference Dry Well Calibrator is particularly suitable for applications requiring not only a stable heat source but also low measurement uncertainty and excellent temperature uniformity.
During comparison calibration, the reference thermometer and device under test are inserted into the dry well insert. Once the required setpoint has been reached and sufficient stabilization time has elapsed, the readings of the reference and device under test can be compared.
With the optional process calibrator configuration, these tasks can be performed directly with the ADT 878. The external reference probe can be measured while two device under test channels are processed simultaneously.
This makes the series suitable for resistance thermometers, Pt100 and Pt1000 probes, thermocouples, temperature transmitters, temperature switches and digital thermometers.
Flexible Expansion
The Additel ADT 878 can be adapted to different calibration requirements using various inserts, reference probes and the optional process calibrator configuration.
With the PC option, two additional device under test channels are available in addition to the reference input. Supported measurements include RTDs, thermocouples, mA and voltage. Switch testing is also possible.
The platform additionally supports data logging, automated test procedures and HART communication. This enables the dry well to be integrated into automated and documenting calibration processes.

High Precision Reference Temperature Calibration
The Additel ADT 878 is designed for applications where the performance of a conventional dry well calibrator is not sufficient.
The ADT 878-160’s stability of ±0.005 °C demonstrates the reference level performance of the series. Additel also specifies both axial and radial temperature uniformity.
For demanding comparison calibrations, an external reference probe can be positioned directly next to the device under test. This allows the actual temperature at the measurement location to be determined.
Automatic Self Calibration
An important function of the Additel ADT 878 is automatic self calibration.
An external reference probe is used to check the internal control sensor. The calibrator can perform the procedure largely automatically.
This can reduce the influence of long term drift of the internal sensor and improve confidence in measurements using the internal reference.
Process Calibrator and HART
With the optional PC configuration, the ADT 878 becomes a comprehensive temperature calibration workstation.
One reference PRT and two devices under test can be connected. The device channels support RTDs, thermocouples, mA, voltage and switches.
A full HART communicator, task management, As Found and As Left documentation and data logging are also available.
This is particularly useful for temperature transmitters because the heat source, reference measurement and electrical signal evaluation can be combined within one system.
Automatic Water Triple Point Realization
A special feature of the ADT 878-160 is its support for the optional ADT878-TPW-KIT.
The system can automatically realize a water triple point cell and subsequently maintain it in the reference dry well. This function can be used for regular drift checks of high quality PRT reference thermometers.
Automatic PRT Annealing
The ADT 878-700 provides an automatic annealing function.
Annealing can be used with high quality platinum resistance thermometers to reduce mechanical and thermal stresses and improve sensor stability.
The ADT 878-700 includes preconfigured programs for this purpose. Users can also define custom temperature, time and cooling profiles.
europascal Calibration Service
Reliable and traceable temperature measurements require both reference probes and temperature calibrators to be calibrated regularly.
Through the europascal Calibration Service, temperature calibrators, resistance thermometers, thermocouples, temperature transmitters and other temperature measuring instruments can be metrologically calibrated.
europascal can also assist you in selecting the appropriate Additel ADT 878, suitable inserts and reference probes and in configuring a complete temperature calibration workstation.
